Think it was something like 64-5 on de_train in CS 1.4. My kills to deaths ratio in 1.6 and lower was around 5:1 on average, and in CS Source after a two year break from the game I'm slowly reaching a 2:1 average. Not pretty but that's because I usually play on poorer sides as I like a challenge :)

Change your resolution to the same as your desktop resolution. Fixed all my problems. Never crashed since.

Sounds like a problem with the Steam client. Try reinstalling it.

Definitely a problem with the code. It seems to be either a problem with a pointer or something going wrong when the code assigns a pointer to a new area of memory on the heap.

Decided to completely uninstall my graphics card drivers. I ran the Cat Uninstall utility which removed the drivers and some other bits and bobs. Then ran Driver Cleaner 3 and Cab Cleaner in safe mode. This removed everything that I didn't need. Installed all the drivers again fresh and can...

This has been my experience so far. Tried a few things. Seems I don't get the problems all of you do, (ie level loading, occasionally when the game loads and always when trying to change to full screen and/or to any resolution - when I change res in a window it's fine).

Another update - played CS Source for a good while in fullscreen mode first time and no memory errors whatsoever. I'm convinced it's a problem with HL2.

Running the game in a window at 800x600 resolution now. Still won't allow me to play in fullscreen, same crashes if I try and change it. When loading new areas it doesn't crash, (so far) like a few people have reported.

I have an SB Live and XP SP2 and am experiencing the same problem. I don't think it's sound related myself. I get this at the same point as applejaxx2 - when the Loading bar is on the screen.
