Hey there. I'm working on a Colt Navy and I thought I'd show you all. I've got it all modeled and I was looking for skinning tips (where to cut, how to lay it out, etc). Whatever works. Any advice from "That looks cool" to "The 32nd vertice from the lower left corner of the pistol grip's second...
Looks cool. Is this a gun of your own design? I can see mp5 influences (the forward reloading handle and overall silhouette). One thing I can see is that the clip very long and the reloading handle is very short, so it may bring a little disbelief of reality when animated. Also, if you are...
Finding tutorials for Maya should be pretty easy. Do a google search; be sure to include the word video or you'll have to search through hundreds of word documents. Also, check the sticky threads of this forum. I think there are alot. I'd share my Bookmarks, but I use XSI so I don't have much...
Thanks. For a skin, I think It's going to be mainly a metallic black, with some plastic black pieces. I'm not sure. We'll see how it goes. I'll post some screenshots when I get it done.
Hi guys, it's been awhile. I've been working on this model for awhile now. I made it with Silo, not SoftImage (I know, it's a switch-up). As the picture stands, it's aound 370,000 polygons since it has been subdivided. Unsubdivided it's around 19k... something like that. I forget. Anyway, it is...
Ah, good call. I hadn't thought of that yet. I was just hoping that the texture would be "baked" onto the polygon and would distort with it.

Yeah, I'm using XSI. Sorry for not clarifying. I appreciate the idea, but I didn't change the animation frame.
I successfully got my shotgun skinned. I am happy. What do you guys think?
~Archvilell
When I am texturing and getting the polygons back to scale so I can stamp it then paint on it, why does my background keep changing? I have the checkerboard background valve uses, then I accidently click something and it changes back to some obscure rotoscope I used once. It's annoying as hell...
Nice model. The only thing I can see is the grill guard seems a little blockish, and maybe the tires. Maybe the outside edges could be beveled a little and it would give a more rounded look without too many more polies. Overal, nice model. The textures look good for 80% complete too.

Ah, that will help cut the polies down a lot. Thanks for the tip random.hero. Oh, quick question. If a face is flat, does it need to be in quads or can it have more than four edges? I know that if it is not flat, it needs to be in at least quads or the smoothing won't come out right.
I also...
Ah, okay. I didn't know I could do things like that. I thought everything had to be continuous. Hmm, that changes my outlook a lot. Can I get a second opinion if that is a good tactic or not?
Thanks,
Archvilell
I'm new to rendering, so this was all I could come up with. Use your imagination to make it prettier. Rendering isn't too high on my priority list right now. I've got a ton of work due by the end of next week. Gotta get to it.

Hmm. Maybe update all your drivers, not just the video card. I haven't installed XSI in awhile, but maybe it gives you options on what kind of video preferences, something like DirectX or OpenGL or something. I'm not knowledgable in that area at all, but I would start fiddling with options...
