I like the idea, but I can only see it used for casual games for myself that is. WIth a mouse you use your entire wrist to move it, so discomfort is not that big. But with a controller you use your thumbs mainly which will create a lot of discomfort and pain after an hour or two of play time...

Plenty of people would love to play from the comfort of their couch. Just because you don't understand it doesn't mean its unnecessary. All of us who love to sit in a chair not slouch on a couch would continue to do so.

Were you expecting something else? I think the entire idea behind Steam Machines was to extend Steam to the living room, so people can play with a controller from their couches. The idea is pretty self explanatory.
