If there are people out there still interested in this stuff, I've updated an the article here:
http://www.hlccl.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42375
It includes a guide tellin ya HOW to play the demos.
Has anyone tried "sign on using an existing account" after a format? I did this and can't start a game at all, just sticks to the "establishing network connection.." screen (left it for half an hour). Can't even cancel out of it, just freezes the computer completely for a reboot.
Any fixes...
Trillian is not a fully featured IRC client, so I doubt that URL will work for you.
Try this in your Trillian...

Port: 6667
Channel: #halflife2
Since when is mIRC spyware? ...and it is free, just a bit of nag-ware (getting a popup requesting you to register each time you run it). If you weren't replying to the guy before you then ignore this.
Best for windows is mIRC.
You will be able to download "HL: CS Fanvideos" and "HL: di.avi" as they have different hosts. The others only have the one (cs-videos) which is down for a couple days due to updating hardware on their machines I think.
I'll post here again when they have their ftp back up.
Good post. As a programmer I kinda already knew what to expect, got to say I would not mind now if Valve delayed HL2 an extra year to set there stuff straight and improve the source engine compared to the leaked version, just so it can be secret again.
Out of all the things that could have...
I can't play on any servers, when I try to join with this build it freezes and sometimes if it's real kind it gives an error msg 'game not avail..' (no matter how many times I restart the bastin thing).
I voted screws my files about, their previous build was better, least I could play then :/
