No Monkey Island games had a narrative, and it was impossible to die in any Monkey Island game, apart from the first one, where when you were under water in the docks, if you stayed there for longer than 10 minutes, Guybrush would drown.
it should be possible. You will need to create a joystick.cfg file in this folder:
J:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\<account name>\half-life 2\hl2\cfg (replace J: with the drive you have steam installed on.) It might also be under Program Files\Valve\Steam instead of just Steam.

screenshot? And you really should try to persevere a bit longer if you get stuck. it's much more satisfying to complete these games by yourself than requesting hints all the time! :)
but it does depend on how they end. Joining up HL1 and 2 didn't make sense as there is a roughly 10 year gap between them. We know that HL2 and Ep1 are immediately next to each other time wise, but that's not to say the rest of the episodes will be, so it might not make sense to have them...

Well if the 1st 3 episodes finish the half-life 2 story arc, I think we can assume that those 3 go in chronological order, therefore leaving the 4th episode with the possibility of going back in time as such? covering the 7 hour war here seems to make much sense...
You only need the net connection to register your game through steam. Once registered you can play in offline mode, although if you want to receive any updates you would have to run Steam in online mode for a time to get them.
