i tried that one, i had the same problem, i dont think its that, When i start steam up... it dose not update... it gives up. i removed the steam which came with the game and installed the new one from the steam website, and i had the same probelm with that.... It's deffently something wrong...

is there any way to manually in the clientregistry.blob? it still dose not do the updates when i start it up..which its meant to right?
