2500 oced at 3200 x800 Pro w/ 16 active pipelines 512 mb RAM - 1 Gig soon (Before HL2 comes out atleast) It'll run at full detail fine.

If your friend has a phone line, then he should be able to get dialup. If not, just let him activate the game on your computer. Besides, cant you just activate it over the phone? Or am I misinformed?

Acting like that isnt gonna get you more help! But its probably your processor, as he said. Or one thin could be spyeware, or the sorts. Clean your system, see what happens. If nothing happens, upgrade your CPU. There getting cheap, these days.

WHat I mean is, I am already using dual channel: 2x256-which makes 512. Should I just add a stick of 512, or take out the memory I have, and put in a Dual 2x512? Would it be that much faster?

Well, I am running dual channel right now, 2x256....So I guess I should jst buy another stick of 512 to make it a Gig, then?

Ok everyone, I have 512 megs of ram....which is fine to run H-L2, but I want a gig to help with loads, and choppiness and the sorts...should I just add another 512, or wait and buy a Dual Channel Gig? Will It be plenty fast enough just to add the 512? Sorry if I worded it confusingly.....plz...

I would personally wait and save up for an x800 pro or something of the like.
