Yeah, I have noticed that texture lighting is severly downgraded from how it was in HL1. Not sure why the change or if it was intentional, but it kind of sucks. :( I'd suggest learning to use light_spot as it can be very effective, and valve uses constantly in their maps.
Pretty sure you just need the add the npc_vortigaunt and make an ai_relationship to hate the player. Though I am pretty sure he will own your face with his lightning attacks, and you might want to lower his health because I think they, like citiziens, have like 3000 HP.

Sorry, but I don't think that holding the hand of every single person who manages to open Hammer really helps people get better. The map is far, far from great, and there's no reason to slap him on the back and give a high-five for a less than great release. Sure it is a good start...
Except that ExitE is buggy as hell and you can make it crash faster than Portal on server.
You can make Portal run in "DM", but don't expect it to last very long. Wait until we get the code in the SDK and someone can make a proper DM Portal.
