It is for a medieval mod and it's for a game that doesn't use bump and diffuse map and has tighter poly limits then HL2.. so I guess it fits in.
By the way, not every metal is grey you know.

Look for tutorials on that, there's a very good one at suurland.com .
Basically you make a plane and a material with the pic as diffuse map and then you use the material on the plane.
Diffuse map = the standard map.
