Have you tried looking on trainline.co.uk/phoning up for some prices? The earlier you book for trains the cheaper it is. Might get a better quote than for a coach?

Are you using azureus by any chance? After I formatted my HDD one time, I had problems with it disconnecting me. Something goes wrong with Java, can't remember exactly what the error is. If you are using it, try uTorrent, it's great.
