just got a chance to try out the fix, works great. I switched off the tinternet and avg, and various other progs that load automatically, started up episode 2 and got through the doors. did not play anyfurther though due to being very busy. Hope this cures the problem for all. regards...

been checking this out on the Steam website, these crashes or freezes could be caused by anti virus software such as norton , or avg 7.5. Check it out...
