    Yes, but it's still possible that could occur. Half-Life 2 is an alternate universe, so events don't have to match up with our timeline - they just have to be consistent with the nature of the (fictional) universe. If things happen differently there has to be a reason.

    The streaming system is in place in the Xbox version. It's there to allow them to keep the same number of loading points as the PC version (well, they still had to split levels up in a few cases). That's no mean feat when you consider that the Xbox only has 64MB of memory.

    Yes the entire FX line is too slow to run DirectX 9 at full precision. Anyway, who cares what the menu settings default to? Just change them yourself, like everyone else does. Valve don't know how fast you'll be able to run the game - all they can do is build in a basic hardware detection...
