Easily get both. Doom3 for singleplayer then hl2 singleplayer,multiplayer,mods. then maybe by the time im done with hl2 mods, in 4 years or so, quake 4 will be gettin ready for release

i would prefer server side hit detection. cheating is always the #1 problem ppl have with online games. a litle more lag for drastically less cheaters? ill take that anyday.
