This might have no significance, but I'm just wondering if the stencil graffiti of ape-human-combine evolution is actually a resistence symbol. People say it's combine propaganda, but I tend to disagree - I guess that if I was as resourceful as the combine I would use silk-screened posters or at least vinyl decals instead of a stencil graffiti, which is very nicely done but has imperfections that modern print doesn't.
Soviet Russia used silk screen printing to make their propaganda posters. Hell, even I used silk screen printing successfully and I'm not too good with chemicals. I bet the combine have that technology.
So who would use a stencil graffiti? Well, I would use a stencil graffiti when I'd like to make a message and get the hell out of there before I get caught.
Otherwise, I'd use printed posters and wheatpaste.
(To avoid unnecessary sarcasm, if you have nothing smarter than 'who cares' to add, please don't reply)
