Ok here is the deal guys :) Since i live in Ireland and they have great f***ing internet conections (noooot) it took me 4 hrs to dl episode 2 with a 2mb connection!!!! So the deal is that i wanna give one of my friends the steam account now and i was wondering if i ca back up the game on a dvd/ external hd and trnsfear it to this pc because he is worse of than me and only has a 1mb connection!!! When u right klick in steam onto the game it says sumthing back up!!! can i back up the game with that and transfear it to his pc so he can play it ?

Easy just go on file and backup games note you will have to put it on multiple DVD's. Best way is just to copy and paste your steam folder onto an external hard drive take it to his house copy to his computer steam will check for updates should take only a few seconds and thats it.

File > Backup Games.

yes i know that!! but can i add the game again to steam? eg i remove all steam stuff and set it up fresh? so instead of dl can i just like point steam towards the backup?

Burn the .gcf files to a DVD, then copy them back over once you get all set up again...

The GCFs in Steam\steamapps\ are the way to go, get them the media of your choice and copy them into the same folder on your friends computer. Restart Steam and tada!

While they do take up more space than the compressed Steam Backup I've found Steam Backup to be iffy on Steam Accounts other than yours. For example recently I tried to use my Steam Backup DVDs to give a friend (who had just bought The Orange Box) Half-Life 2 and Episode One - Steam wanted him to enter an Activation Code (I'm assuming) for every game on the Backup that he didn't own.
