Blood decals are a HL signature feature. The old HL1 engine does blood splatters better than most current engines, still. I must give a shoutout to Far Cry, though. The entrance and exit wound decals were pretty cool. I liked how I could blaze at an enemy then check out the corpse and note the bullet holes in the chest, mouth and eyesocket or whatever later. Speaking of which, farcr's heavy ragdolls have really grown on me, I like them now much better than the featherweight max payne 2 havok ones. It's all just variables I know. Hopefully valve will set theirs well.

Please continue to discuss decals (blood, explosions, spray etc etc). Fenric locked the other thread (quite justly) and I'd like this discussion to continue without comp spec fights.

Yes, I also liked being able to check out my bullet placements. Silly I know, but it amused me to no end. It's just one more thing to keep me entertained, and it does a good job at it. I noticed that when I get freaked out and fire at an enemy real fast without aiming I tend to shoot the throats about 80% of the time.

the game's ragdoll will still rock... but adding a bit of weight might help... those ragdolls are like marshmellow people! or a 3 muskateer's bar!
 
NO, NO, Max Payne 2 rag dolls are the best so far. Going in Super Slow Mo and getting the sawed of shotgun and starting to shot an dead enemy up the wall, all the while doing that uber-cool flip reload. I got like a million screenshots of that :)

Have you noticed that if you used a silenced burretta ( mod ) when you shot them they did a large cartwheel in the air?

Oh ya laz if you love slow mo and shooting them up, try the max rambo mod. Kick ass, the shriker or what ever that fast shooting shotgun is called. It has infinite ammo, with 4x fire rate and a slow mo which makes the guys move a inch ever 2 secs.

I loaded 200-300 bullets up in the air in 2 secs haha. Did a hardware test of my machine and shot around alteast 1000 before the game began to lag and crash. Took slow mo off and wham, 5 guys went from one corner of the room to the far end in split sec haha :thumbs:
 
Doesnt look like there will be any gore. Mostly im looking for gore in dodsource, but the dod team pansyed out from gore in beta 2. If im holding a grenade and it goes off in my hand, its not going to just blow me sideways alright. It will blow my hand/arm off.

If i get hit by a rocket launcher, I WILL EXPLODE! But nooooooo. In day of defeat if you get smashed in the chest by a rocket, its just "hmm thats inconvenient, i think ill just sit down here abit."
 
I too loved HL1's blood effects. They were perfect really, the only problem I have with them now is that I've been spoilt over the years with heaps better graphics, the blood texture is pretty low res. I bet HL2 with have the same blood effects just with higher res. And I agree about the Max Payne 2 thing. The ragdolls in that are heaps better than FarCry's. Technically they may be less realistic but they do look a hell of a lot flashier.
 
hehe awesome. This is turning into a ragdoll thread, but what the hell. I thought it was funny how the farcry ragdolls freaked out when you shot them in the shins. Pretty well everywhere but the legs resulted in a thud and six inches of movement.

As for slomo, the max payne ragdolls are well suited to it, and that's probably why they're so light. Makes sense for the game style.

Best farcry ragdoll moment: shotgun merc shoots at me, killing the merc in front of him. Front merc ragdolls onto his knees very slowly. Rear merc fires again, hits his friend in the back again and sends him ragdolling through a pane of shattering glass towards me. Cool unscripted stuff owns.
