Domenici Sought Iglesias Ouster

By Mike Gallagher

In the spring of 2006, Domenici told Gonzales he wanted Iglesias out.
Gonzales refused. He told Domenici he would fire Iglesias only on orders from the president.

.....................

At some point after the election last Nov. 6, Domenici called Bush's senior political adviser, Karl Rove, and told him he wanted Iglesias out and asked Rove to take his request directly to the president.

Domenici and Bush subsequently had a telephone conversation about the issue.

The conversation between Bush and Domenici occurred sometime after the election but before the firings of Iglesias and six other U.S. attorneys were announced on Dec. 7.

Iglesias' name first showed up on a Nov. 15 list of federal prosecutors who would be asked to resign. It was not on a similar list prepared in October.

The Journal confirmed the sequence of events through a variety of sources familiar with the firing of Iglesias, including sources close to Domenici. The senator's office declined comment.

Iglesias was fired shorly after the 2006 elections because he refused to bring charges against a New Mexico democrat. Republican Rep Heather Wilson and Republican senator Pete Deminici called Iglesias before the elections and request he bring charges before the election, when he refused Deminici was quoted as saying "I'm sorry to hear that" and hung up the phone. He then called Alberto Gonzales who refused to fire Iglesias without the permission of the president. So he then called Karl Rove who scheduled a phone conversation between Deminici and Bush. Shortly after Iglesias was fired. Didn't Bush say that he nor the attorney general had anything to do with these firings.

And now Bush is refusing to allow congress to interview Rove and other high level staffers under oath and with a transcript.

Same thing with him firing generals for not agreeing with him....

Wait the president can fire an attorney?
How the hell can he do that, doesn't that infringe on the separation of powers.

Problem is this group of people seem to think they are above the law. It's not that shocking that they are accused of this, however it is in the sense that there appears to be strong evidence to show the public that these guys are most definately abusing their positions.

No. The Attorney General's office is part of the executive branch.

The president can fire them yes. Actually most presidents have done this at the beginning of their term. What is so unusual about this is the fact they did it 6 years in to their term for strictly political reasons. As politically damaging as this is it was still legal. The crime comes in during the cover up which is similar to what happened to Nixon.

First the white house said they did not fire these attorneys for political reasons. Gonzales went on capital hill and actually lied to congress when he said this as we now know it was strictly for political reasons. This is illegal.

Then to cover this up they conducted official white house business in regards to this scandal (and god knows what else) on private RNC servers. This is totally illegal.

Now we find out they actually deleted upwards of 5 million emails from these servers to avoid a record of what waws taking place, again extremely illegal. I work in IT and manage a couple different mail servers, one under Linux (exim) and one under Windows 2003 (microsoft exchange). I can tell you it is extremely hard to make emails simply disappear, especially when you know you have to have those servers set up so emails are preserved. Since emails are usually CCed there will be copies of them on various different computers. And every time you send an email it is bounced through many different servers all of which will have a record of that email and will do regular backups of that information. So if those emails really can not be recovered (the white house seems to be saying this) there must have been an organized effort to make sure these emails would never be recovered. If this actually turns out to be the case I don't think anyone with half a brain cell left will be able to argue against impeachment.

To make matters even worse they actually used the patriot act to help them replace all these attorneys without having to be confirmed by the senate. Again, not illegal but using 9/11 for your own personal political reasons in such an obvious way is political suicide.

By the time this is all over I think this administration will be exposed as the most corrupt in this country's short history.

now I see why so many people believes in the conspiracy theories
