Hi,

This is really annoying. I've played Half-Life 2 for a while with no problems at all. I finally passed through "Highway 17", but when I tried to load a saved game in the end of the chapter, the game crashed to the menu. I tried again, but then it crashed to the desktop. I loaded a previously saved game, and it worked fine. I got to the "Sandtraps" chapter, loaded the game - it crashed again.
This problem has only occured now, and only in the end of "Highway 17" and in the beginning of "Sandtraps".

I've searched on Google for help. A lot of people has the same problem - No one has got a solution. So now I'll try posting.. Maybe someone can help me :)

Thanks in advance!
Regards,
Mathias Brandt

Cool! I didn't know you could do it that way! Sorry, i just find that amusing...

Beerdude: Thanks for your reply. It didnt work though. I tried validating and it found no errors. Then i tried the New Game-thing, but you have to complete the chapter to choose it from the menu :(

By the way, it comes up with an error which says
"The instruction at '<address>' referenced memory at '<address>'.
The memory could not be read.
Click OK to terminate the program. "
Anyone has a cure for this? :P

What processor do you have? 64-bit or 32-bit?
You can read it off the computer box: something like (NUMBER, e.g. "3.0") Ghz.
If you have an AMD Ahtlon 64, you have 64-bit. If you have an Intel Pentium 4, you probably don't.
If you have a 64-bit processor, try putting "-32bit" behind the game shortcut.

Ok. I'll try that tomorrow. But shall i write that in the HL2 shortcut?

I actually dont now about the processor.. I'll just find out.

Man, you're just all about the 32 bit today, aren't you beerdude?

I can't help it that these people buy 64-bit processors while we're still in a 32-bit market :p

Hey, you gotta give valve some credit though. They're the first game designers to take the risk of releasing 64 bit games. Somebody had to, why not some kick ass software engineers?

Hi again.

I just tried putting -32bit in the game target. It didn't help though :/
I searched on www.steampowered.com and it seems that many people has got this problem. They had a long list of possible fixes, but none of them worked for me.

This really sucks.. My game is all messed up :( But i'll just try playing the game again, from one of those saveganes that actually work.

Thanks for the help anyway :)

Yeah its much too early for 64, everything is still running on 32 platforms, unless you run enterprise and you like to trade amusements for security 32bit is what you like to play games on. trust me on this.
