As a gun owner in real life, I have gone out of my way to learn as much as I can about firearms.
I am also an avid gamer.
while playing Left4Dead today I ran into an argument between two people I?ve heard many times before
Calling a Magazine a ?clip?

I?m using a Wiki sources, which was to my surprise not that bad
Clip

Magazine

Lets use Left 4 Dead
1911 (The Pistol) = magazine.
Uzi= Magazine
m16 a3 (?)= Magazine (which is real life is normally 20-30 rounds, I have yet to find a 50 round AR type magazine that was drum magazine)
Pump and auto Shotgun= Tubular Magazine
Mini14 w/scope= Magazine

Now if there was a m1 Garand in the game then it would be fed with Clips. The magazine is left in the rifle and ?fed? with clips.

There are also plenty of sites that reference this error. I just get tired of hearing the uninformed yelling at each other in my ear

Clip and magazine are pretty much interchangeable to non-gun enthusiasts.

Besides that, people find "clip" easier to say. One syllable versus three.

I understand how it can grind people's gears, but it really isn't enough to get truly pissed off over.

And it's an M16A2 (as it says on the side), just not accurate. Valve doesn't really care about historical weapon accuracy up to a point, balance is more important.

I always use magazine, except with revolvers. I find it's usually pretty accurate (also, this language does not have any alternatives).

I'll be damned if I'm going to waste valuable time and air using a 3 syllable word over 1.

Mag = shortened for of Maggie!

you dont know how many times I have read this in tons of forums

is like "OMG there is something you must know thats is very important!"
"what?"
"mag and clips are not the same*explanation*"
"holy shit wow!"
"dude my life has changed now"
"world wouldnt be the same"

Well, Id say it's pretty logical for the survivors to call them clips. I think they got other things to worry about.

Who really cares? I've never said or hear anyone say anything in game about clips or magazines. I've never even heard anyone announce that they are reloading, aside from when your character shouts it.

No one cares.

This is just more elitist drivel to inflate ones sense of self importance and worth.

To validate why no one cares, my friend Nick who served 3 years in Iraq says both. When talking in technical terms, like describing a certain gun, he'll call it a magazine. When at the shooting range, he'll say clip. Why? It's easier to say, and it's BASICALLY THE SAME THING apart from a few key mechanical differences.

Anyway, the point is that it's somewhat of an annoyance to make threads like this and basically call anyone who doesn't use the proper term an idiot. Maybe we just aren't out to impress anyone with proper usage of technical terms, hmm? Maybe we know what someone means when they say "clip", and leave it at that.

Everyone gets anal about something. Don't act like there aren't things that you feel the need to correct people on.

Know how to spot the difference. It can save a life.

In all honesty, they are all a lie...we are in The Matrix....

The correct Terminology is Magazine the word "clip" originates from the M1 Carbine during WW2 which was fed by a clip.

I'd perfectly understand if this referring to other, more realistic games... but Left 4 Dead? Come on.

To the non-future school rampage gun-nutter, clip and mag are interchangeable, ammo goes in, shooty death comes out, that's all we need to know.

Clip or Magazine? i dont think anyone cares enough to go into detail about it really
but i call it a clip

Magazine is the correct term. Clip is used by people who don't know what the hell they're talking about.

Also, the only full length (20" barrel) M16 that was full auto was the Vietnam-era M16 and M16A1, although it would be possible to drop a full-auto (not 3 round burst) lower with a full-length M16 upper.

Mac, PC same thing Right?;)

I just thought I would share with everyone, seeing as this is a common mistake I see and hear often.

For different weapons I call it either clip or magazine. Usually I just see the weapon and either clip or magazine comes to mind.

I do know what they mean, but that dont make it right

I just thougt I would share my wisdom with the rest of you guys. But if you want to be wrong, feel free to be wrong

I've never said the word "clip" while playing Left 4 Dead. I don't intend to.

@Eejit and nurizeko

Your semantics show your ignorance.
