"The top selling game was Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 2 with just over 250,000 units for a 77% adoption rate. Following that was EA Tiburon's Madden 06 (178,000) and EA Canada's Need for Speed Most Wanted (108,000). Then Rare's Perfect Dark Zero (86,000), Bizarre Creations' Project Gotham Racing (70,000+), and Rare's Kameo: Elements of Power (70,000+)"

interesting numbers, I guess the casual game fan seems to still like ww2 games ..heh CoD2 came free with my vid card, $69.99 (canadian) is just too much for the majority of console games

"The report shows that the console sold 325,902 units during November, a number clearly limited by Microsoft's limited supply capabilities. By comparison, Xbox sold 556,000 in the same time period upon its release in 2001."

wonder what the numbers would have been if Oblivion came out at launch

About 10000 times higher lol, the numbers still might be higher than CoD2 when it comes out, Never know

I seriously doubt Oblivion would have dominated the charts. Like Perfect Dark, simply not enough people know about it. CoD's the arcade shooter that appeals to the masses.

Im not surprised. Its one of the only good games to make the release besides perfect dark.

And WAAAY more people know about oblivion than perfect dark. Do you remember that game called Morrowind on Xbox?? Yeah, that was one of the most popular games, and almost everyone I know has it. I doubt the next in the series would have gone under everyones radar.

Yeah, this is what happens when your launch line-up is lacking. Granted, CoD2 looks amazing on 360, but there just isn't anything else for sale right now that has the power to show-off what a home videogame console can do.

Once Oblivion and Gears of War and the rest of the more truly next-gen titles come out, sales will definitely increase as people see what the system can really do. Of course, thats assuming the shortages aren't as rampant as they are now.

I agree, but it might have taken some of CoD2's sales

There's no doubt in my mind that it would have. Just like CoD2 looks better on the 360 than on many people's PCs right now, Oblivion would as well and would therefore be a great demo of the system's power to show off to friends and family. Many early adopters care a great deal about being the first person to have something because they can then rub it in the faces of the have-nots. Oblivion would have been a great opportunity for that! (Mind you, it still will be, but it will be later and so not quite as effective.)

COD2 to me seems like the only decent game out for X360. PDZ got bad reviews and is a first generation of it's game franchise (For most gamers). King Kong has the TV darkness problem, and I'm pretty sure people would like COD2 more than KK. Gears of War I'm suprised didn't do better.

Gears of War isn't out yet. PDZ got pretty good review (mostly 8's and 9's) and, imo, is far better than CoD2.

CoD2 is very impressive with the right set up, though (big HD tv, surround sound etc) - and is great fun to play through once.

Ugh, people are really missing the bigger picture with PDZ. They're all too caught up in the bad plotline and shoddy cutscenes to notice that the game is fun to play. That's what's important here, and I absolutely love it.

Hahaha! Yeah, since its not out yet (like Warbie said), it doesn't surprise me that it hasn't sold too many units! However, when it comes out, I can guarantee that many consoles will be purchased solely for that title. (The assumption here is that GoW turns out to be all that everyone hopes it will be and more.)

Wtf, the Spike TV VGAs had GoW as a nominee.. wtf. How can you award a game that's not out yet

Aw, no love for Condemned?! That's one hell of a game.

CoD2 is great though. I've had tons of fun with it so far.

Um, Gears of War wasn't nominated for anything at the 2005 Spike TV VGAs. God of War was, but that's a very different title. :E

That said, you can bet your sweet bippy that Gears of War will be at the 2006 VGAs.

FYI: The Spike TV VGAs are a pretty lousy gauge by which to judge games.

Just to go a little off topic:
Does anyone here have cod2 for the xbox2?
I ask because we have a testbox set up at the local electronics store, and the cod2 demo looks worse on that than it does on my slightly (not much) dated gaming-rig. Especially jaggies are prevalent on the xbox2, as if there is no aa what so ever.

I run my game in 1280x1024 and max settings, and all edges are smooth as a baby's butt, but on that xbox2 the jaggies are extreme.

So, the question is, if you have the retail cod2 for xbox2, are the jaggies obvious or not?

.bog.

It depends on the screen. On the whole, the jaggies are worse.

The details and effects are better, however, and the game runs far smoother than it does on any pc.

looks absolutely awesome on my 7800gt ..went to best buy and I couldnt tell the difference between my version and the 360's

seriously, looks better on my X800 XT and I get a pretty damn smooth framerate - i couldn;t believe it when I played it on the X360 after playing it on my PC and realizing it looked better on my PC, especially all the normal mapping

I don't think there's a big difference between the 2 except jaggies on the Xbox 360.

I think the reason CoD2 is selling so well is because they advertise the shit out of it with those fakem made-up, CG commercials. People probably figure that the game won't look like that but it makes them crave a game that would be like that.

I know a kid that asked for CoD: Big Red One for xmas simply because the commercials were cool and he likes shooters.

That's what the 1st Infantry Division was known as, so it's not some crude innuendo.

Yeh thats a good game. I already said how good it is thought i dont know if it is in the same thread though

I think it uses some better effects like smoke and lower-res textures. Call of duty 2 just runs on an old engine with some pretty effects slapped on so it's really no good to show what the next gen is capable of pc or console. Not to say that it isn't an awsome game. It really is one of the best launch titles.

CoD 2 is excellent. I just got it for PC. Of course, being an idiot, I'm playing through for the first time on Veteran difficulty... D-Day is freaking impossible.

nah I played the first few levels like that ..only using rifles and gernades ...makes it more intense ..normal difficulty is too easy

Well, I'm glad to hear that. It's been perfect up until now (challenging, but not impossible) but now I'm on the verge of giving up.

Yeh start on the easy mode

stupid me, i realized why it looks better on PC, because you can actually get some decent resolutions... duh

so in all those reviews where they said the graphics were as good, if not better on the x360, they were lying ?!

I'd like to see side-by-side comparisons because when I've played it...it looks identical with more jaggies.

Except it runs better - which, to me, is far more important than a few jaggies. It doesn't matter what pc you run CoD2 at, if you're using decent settings/resolution there will be the odd stutter, and when things get hectic the frame rate will drop. I've played CoD2 on my X800 xtpe and on my friends 7800 SLI system - it's obviously better on his rig, but still suffers from these problems.

There are times when my X800 would be lucky to to run CoD2 at a 3rd of the frame rate the 360 can handle.

It also looks like the smoke andvarious other effects are better on the 360 - maybe they're the same, but just being seen at a high frame rate?

The stutters are usually because of some other problem. On my computer, I have optimised the bejesus out of it, and I have no random stutters ever with any game now. Cod2, Fear on highest settings, any game at all. Sure the framerate will drop when things get crazy, but if you think that doesnt happen on a console then your wrong.

But for the XB360, you have to see it on HD tvs, otherwise it will look a lot worse than it can be. Id imagine that the jaggies would diminish (not entirely but a good deal), and you can play on higher resolutions.

I would say, right now, xb360 games look the same as on PC, and get roughly the same performance. Performance on a PC however varies a lot more, because of how people configure them... so my probably runs better than xb360, but my friends pc, with about the same hardware, doesnt.
