Figured i'd give my go at commanding today, and wasn't even too sure I would get a spot on a server.

Well, I found a wake server and got the spot. First round, we completely toasted them, because their highest scorer had 13 points, and the rest of the team was all negative because of vehical fighting overage

I came out with a silver :O

Second round, they had us for a few seconds, but we eventually take each end of wake at the same time with brute force.

I escape with a gold :D

Third round was teh charm.

For the first part of the game, it looked like they had us. We were at about 80 or 70, them at 120, and we still didn't have any points. I noticed that the PLA force was concentrated on the northern TIP of the island, so I sent all of my forces to the North Beach. I then took my best populated and most evenly classed squad, and sent them in a Boat to the southern tip of the island. There, they made a smart move, and sent one of their guys up to the Beach in a tank. As soon as they take the position, I order all of my forces to the Airstrip, which we take with brute force. This was our saving grace.

A whole bunch of squads full of jet pilots suddenly popped up on the comm menu. I made sure that the base Airstrip was cleaned out of infantry before ordering my men to the Beach. The PLA then took back the South Beach, which is where the bombers come it. Through the rest of the game, my men would be held back from the south beach by a choked PLA force at the Beach, and the South Beach would continuously go neutral. I'd then spot out the forces there, drop an arty on Beach, and give a "Destroy" command to all of our jets, who proceeded to bomb the crap out of the point. We'd then take the point back (via a chopper squad), lose it, and the whole process would start again. This happened maybe 5 or 6 times till we finally took the Beach. If it wasn't for the jets, we would have probably lost.

So eventually we take the Beach, and then start fighting at the South Beach,
which we yes, took, and well, I came out with another gold medal :D

FUN FUN FUN!!!

OH AND A HUGE TIP FOR COMMANDERS!

The best hiding spot is the ocean.

Spawn at your main base, and jump into the water at the beach that is facing away from the fighting. Then swim out the sea for a little while, and command from there. Doing this, I didn't die once.

If you're USMC, then just spawn on the carrier deck and dive off the side.

If you're so far away though, how are you going to manage to repair your damaged artillery / UAV? You can rarely count on having engineer's bother to repair them, although staying alive I guess will help your K/D ratio. Anyway, if you're USMC you're better off staying underground or near the 2nd AA site, depending if there's jet whore's about.

But then again, I haven't been commander in months, although this post might just convince me to try it out a bit again, but this time using VoIP to talk to squad leaders.

Going near the Boat Bay is probably the worst spot to hide. You'll die maybe 10 times, getting stabbed by specops trying to infiltrate your base. Happens to me all the time.

If you're out of your command menu, then you're a waste to the team. Commanders repairing shit should only happen when they are near their toys, or when your men ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY need that supply crate (which rarely ever happens).

You're much more usefull if you're alive, than if your scrambling around wasting your time with your toys.

Going in the ocean, thats a new idea. Ill have to try that sometime.
When I command on Wake as Chinese, I usually go south-east, right down to the very tip of the island, behind the Airstrip.

I like to be spec ops, then go hide in the water. Scans can't see you, and nobody can eye you down.

I like to think I'm a rather good com, though it's impossible for me to find a team that will listen to what I say. I'll be like "ATTACK HERE" and they are al "n3g newb" :(

Lol, yeah.

I got lucky that my squads listened to me just fine.

I used some chat commands on a few occasions to explain some really odd orders to them (like, "move to a point all the way behind enemy lines" while they're already driving to some other point).
