Stop spamming, a double post here, and two threads that are the same, expect a talking to from someone with real authority here. Im not sure about the controller, but you can use a joystick. I'd advise using the keyboard and mouse as they are MUCH MUCH better...i assure you.

Yes, I Agree With Hectic Glenn, Stop Posting The Same Message. Also, A Keyboard And Mouse Are Indeed Much Better.

Keyboard and mouse, they're more flexible. Deja Vu or I'm seeing some other threads with title like this...:P

I use a controller and a mouse. Most controllers (at least the good ones) have the ability to map buttons to keys. Just do the mapping and you will be good to go.

MX1000 all the way. Controllers can't beat it.

Aside: anyone else looking forward to when we can play Live users from pc? :D

My friend plays with a controller and he loves it. The only problem he has is that the pads for look and move are reversed from the standard way on most FPS with controller. Get it? I think it would be real good if there was a controller that worked normally.

I'm sure theres a Playstation 2 type controller for the PC. Other than that you can use a Joystick and keyboard, or the standard mouse and keyboard.

Yeah there is use the Playstation 2 controller, thats what i do for certain games. You can buy a usb adapter which allows the ps2 controller in one end for pc use. Its only about 5 english pounds, and really useful. The ps2 controller is the best there is.

The best console controler is the Gamecube one (The only flaw on it is the D-Pads position.) The PS2 controller is STILL a modified SNES controller. However, when it comes to FPS games, nothing can even touch the Keyboard and mouse.

I prefer the Xbox s-type controller out of all of them, don't know why. Never found the playstation one ergonomic. You can connect a ps2 controller to pc using adaptors off play.com (uk), and I think xbox controllers can be directly wired to usb ports?

Why on earth would you want to use a controller anyways??! Get a PS2 or XBox....

And you WILL get eaten alive online by the way. I remember when the keyboard & mouse were released for the Sega Dreamcast, my mate bought them and he was virtually unbeatable online. Of course the "pad" gamers complained and complained, but suffice to say the whole online Dreamcast FPS network was ruined by that unfair advantage.

This is why Microsoft have refused from day 1 to produce a keyboard & mouse for the XBox - XBox Live would be ruled by the keyboard/mousers (although there is now a 3rd party adaptor available).

Anyway, what was my point... ?? Oh yeah - Keyboard/Mouse are much better than any controller!!

Well, now that we've heard from people that are closed minded, how about some help with the analog direction problem anyone??

Could just wait for the Xbox Half-Life 2 :P
Probably would need to do some controller modding to fix that problem, or invert it.

If you are talking about X-Box Live, that ain't going to happen. First off, Live servers are on their own and I doubt they will want to do somthing like that, and second, no multi-player will be on the X-Box version.

And about the actual question here, there is a program called ControlMK. It lets you map keyboard keys to joypad buttons, as well as the Mouse's X and Y coridinates to joysticks. In short, that means it allows you to map the mouse onto an analog pad. Here is the link: http://www.redcl0ud.com/controlmk/index.html

There are those of us who pride ourselves on the fact that we built or upgraded our own PC.
We choose the parts.
If there's one thing I've learned with windows, it's that there is a work-around for everything.
This post was started to answer the question: Can you use a controller (joystick) ?
Anyone actually know anything about configuring the axis to work properly w/hl2????
Leave the xbox in the xbox thread. This is HL2 (PC)

Thanks - Eddie

Dumb_Dude, you rock  Thank you so much.
