IT’S just what you didn’t want to hear! The Crazy Frog is hopping, or rather hoping, to land the Christmas No1 single.

The irritating amphibian is aiming for the prized spot with a medley of festive tunes.

He will face strong competition from a string of established pop favourites. But music fans have a history of buying novelty numbers at Christmas.

A source said: “The producers behind his hit Axel F are working on a Christmas single. It’ll be a combination of tunes like Jingle Bells and We Wish You A Merry Christmas.

“It’s the obvious seasonal novelty record.”

The Crazy Frog burst on to mobile phones around the world this year with his impression of a motorbike engine starting up.

Then he spawned two hit singles plus an album. Previous novelty Christmas No1s include Bob the Builder’s Can We Fix It in 2000, Mr Blobby in 1993 and There’s No One Quite Like Grandma by St Winifred’s School Choir (1980).

Last year’s Yuletide chart-topper was Band Aid 20’s reworking of Do They Know It’s Christmas.
