I don't know anyone, yet, that can connect properly, using the in-game browser, to CS:S. I've heard various explanations, but, if you think about it, if the RC is finished and delivered, what point is there to continuing the beta testing? Then we get 2 STEAM updates within 24 hours....and are unable to use customized content. Maybe protection becasue of another preload, maybe the last for HL2? I always said September 24th for release, and in light of recent events, I have been quite skeptical of HL2 making MY date, but it could be possible......

FLAMERS: remember this is rumor/speculation. Posting to say I'm wrong, without valid explanations, is purely wasted space on the forums HD's. Please help keep costs down.

No way it comes out by Friday, although it could certainly go gold by then.

You are unable to use customised content because it was causing a crash on some people's computers.

OK,

The problem will vary for different people, depending on what files they might have in their sprites/models/sounds folder. The error is caused when one of those files has the same name as a file in the Steam cache - IOW, if it is replacing the default file. We're working on making the problem go away, but in the meantime if you can track down the custom files you have and rename them that will temporarily stop this from happening.

thanks,

Taylor

And yes, the CS:S beta test is effectively over. I wonder when they are actually going to stop making the game available.

Did you mean to put "TF2" in your topic?

uh, yeah...i have no anticipation left for HL2.
no excitement. everything is old news.
it'll come out soon...and 100% for sure, after reading the court documents from last week.
Valve's supposed next project is TF2...and because the audience of TF is not as large as HL, they can shift from making it good for everyone, to making it good for TF2, the game. New hardware survey makes sense, it's been a year since the last..new project in the works..gotta set goals for sales to a specific market somehow...

Whew, cadaveca, you scared me for a second,. I thought CSS was no more! I was just able to jump into a game no problem though.

yup CSS works fine for me too. Just been playing. Steam did update itself (again) when i logged in.

no updates here.. just works now..and the graph on steampowered has leveled out as well too

Im expecting for HL2 to come out some time in October.

Ah, but all Valve needs to do is load the engine and executable when it goes gold. They can release it over steam right away, while the boxed versions probably got to wait another 2 weeks.

Valve have already stated it will be released at the same time across the board ...so steam won't get it early.

yes and if steam worked properly i would also pre load it but hey steam is the worst programm on the market :x
so im just gonna buy the retail version so i dont have to wait on that G*y steam till it works so i can finnally play the hl2 sp :S (gj, valve we love steam)

Yeah, really. Well Steam has no more down time than WON ever did not including updates, and it is MUCH better for users all round, without people playing mixed versions and making a big compatibility mess like what happened with WON.
