I am getting one of these laptops soon an was wondering how well they are for gaming....here are the specs of the one I am getting:
3ghz Pentium 4 w/Hyperthreading
512mb ram
60gb 7200 rpm hd
ATI Radeon Mobility 9700 Pro 64mb version
4x (I think) DVD burner
....could this run most of the newer games?...

Your going to want to avoid P4's in laptops if you care about battery life at all. Go with a Centrino setup which uses the Pentium-M. You'll go from having an hour of battery life to having 4-5 hours. P4-M's that are at 1.8gHZ run as fast as a P4-HT 3.0 because the M's have 4x the cache.
Read about Centrino here: http://www.powernotebooks.com/centrino.php

I'd highly recommend getting a laptop from these guys: http://www.powernotebooks.com/index.php3

They have great prices and a perfect track record on Reseller Ratings. You get alot of bang for your buck.

That wasn't what I was asking....I don't care much about battery life, this one lasts about 4 hours or more (I bought 2 batteries)....I am merely wondering if it would perform well in Halflife 2, WoW, Doom 3, Far Cry, etc...in 1024x768 with no aa or af or that crap

Hmmm...with that Video Card you should be OK playing on a Medium Quality setting.

Sweet...think I will be ok with 512 ram too? might upgrade that..
