In a random chest:
In my own house on the floor:
In a chest in my house:

will they ever disappear?

I hear that if you put things in containers that you do not own they can disappear. Other than that I've seen pretty much everything stay.

I know bodies dont stay. They stay for few game days thats about it. If anyone can confirm where i can leave stuff, i will greatly appreciate it.

The only place I can think of where you can store stuff without having it disappear would be in your own house.

So you can drop it on the floor or put it on display in your house it wont go away?

In your house, yes, same if you drop it anywhere else in town, but if you put it in a container that isn't in your house, it will eventually get stolen or used

Yes, I did an experiment. I put an item in my house, in my guild, and in a random house (one in a chest and one if a floor). After a couple of days the item just dissapeared from the guild and the random house. But in my house the item remains.

I dropped a pair of blades boots in the middle of the road in the Imperial City. They've been there for months. I'm guessing its because blade boots have no value.

Bodies have stayed forever for me. The Daedra chicks that attacked me are still lying in the streets. And then there's some random basket just hanging out in the middle of the street.

Items on bodies dissapear because bodies dissaper.

Items in chests (that you don't own) dissapear because the contents regenerate after a couple days.

Items dropped on the floor (just about anywhere) will stay.

i left items in weynon priory the 1st day i got the game so basically in the 1st days of my character, i went back recently just to find a bed to sleep in and all the stuff i left on the floor was still there.

Nope, i dropped some armor on like the second day in game at the imperial city stable and stole a horse. Now like 300 days later, they are still there.
I think that it should have been removed.

When I was doing the haunted ship quest and was pretty poor. I dragged a piece of dwarven cuirass up on the deck down in anvil. Well my feather spell ended so I couldn't haul it to a store and it was only worth 400 so I decided to pick it up later. Well, I never picked it up later and about a month or two later while walking around the coast at anvil and then coming back I noticed that the same cuirass that I dragged out was still laying on the deck.

The only safe place to put items

A) The floor of your house
B) Chests/Sacks that don't have any items in them when you 1st look inside.

If you take out the items, it's not 'empty' in a few days the sack will regenerate whatever was missing and thus all your stuff will disappear. I learned this the hard way. I used a mod to get a little 'house' and figured they'd be fine. But it regenerated the arrows that were in the chest so all my pre-lvl 10 stuff (i was collecting armor sets and things so i could display on mannequinns) disappeared.

I was miffed because there were a few unique enchanted items that I had crossed, at some point I may end up just going into the TES editor and 'giving myself' those items back on principle.

I think I will soon begin to aimlessly collect armor simply to get the best look for my char.
