Episode 1 keeps crashing right after the load when your about to exit the elevator....Ive never even had one crash when playing halflife 2.

I tried changing video settings, restarting my comp but nothing works

any suggestions ;(

Verified your game files, go into the game properties in steam and verify the gcf contents, you might have got some dodgy update or so.

tried the video drivers? if the verification fails, you might want to go to a newer/older version?

And also a lot of people are getting new errors that HL2 didn't have - new engine (well, modified). You got any specs on you?

I have a constant "Load" crash as well, and I've verified and got new drivers and everything. Except my crash is right after you escort citizens to the train yard.

I've even tried completly deleting the game cache and redownloading the whole thing.

Many people have been reporting these very same issues (especially on the steamforums).
Although some people have reported fixing this through switching drivers, this only seems to work for a small percentage of players.
Another options which has had mixed results is turning your dxlevel down from being at 9.0. this is done either by putting -dxlevel 81 (or 80) in the launch options for ep1. Alternatly, you can set the dxlevel through the game console by typing in mat_dxlevel 81 (or 80). This has fixed the crashes/hang ups for me, but at the price of dx9.0 textures and HDR lighting :s

Other suggestions which were rumored to work (usually when used along with the directx level workaround) are turning AA and anisotropic filtering to off and billinear.

PS. I managed to play the game with dx9.0, but the only I can do it this way is by using -nosound in the launch options. Mind me in my opinion, running around with a gravity gun, a chick and a big robot, all without sound, hardly qualifies as "playing" a game.
