Or chunking or whatever its called. Anyhoo, newly installed winXP, vaio laptop with stupid intel 900 onboard graphics, 512ddr, tonnes of HD space and a recent defrag...

Whenever i look towards where the sun *would* be in HL2 the game jumps like hell! And continues to do so until i look away...

I've just installed it, so i assume it has all the recent updates etc,,,

Help anyone?

Check in video settings to make sure you haven't got Bloom or HDR on, as these can really kill performance, especially on a laptop with an onboard graphics card.

why would that matter???? it wouldnt render any of that. also i played hl2 before and for some reason it set shaders on high but when i tried to change the settings the game crashed. soooo the only way you can play it to get a graphics card.

Onboard graphics = waste of time for HL2. If, somehow you have it working ok except when you look at the sun - then don't look at the sun. You are trying to run a performance game that is quite resource intensive on a crap laptop system. You are probably lucky it goes at all. Turn all settings to low if you haven't already.
