I really should have posted this in General Gaming... but this is very important IMO :)

Right. How many of you have heard of ID software? All of you? Good. Well, otherwise this makes no sense. :P

Right. Remember Wolfenstein 3d?
Who made Return to Castle Wolfenstein? Grey Matter.

All of this seems less than relevant ATM, but just read on.. :)

Right. Some of you won't know this, but still:

PCGamer 62, Quake 3 Arena Feature
Todd Hollenshead, CEO of ID takes up the story. "True, it wasn't always straightforward but it's an interesting evolution of ambition. When we completed Quake 2 last December we knew there was going to be before John Carmack developed the new Trinity technology he was planning.

Eh? What is this Trinity?
Further article-scouring revealed

PCGamer 62, Quake 3 Arena Feature
Trinity is the third stage in the Doom, Quake and Trinity set and remains more of a concept than a game

Ok, nothing unuasual about that. Wrong.
Fast forward 5 years to present day:

PCGamer , Latest On Feature
Trinity AT A GLANCE:
Publisher: Activision
Developer: Grey Matter

Published by ID's publisher and developed by a company who worked closely with ID. :)

Think about it :)

EDIT: eep, I left out my conclusion.

I personally believe that this 'Trinity' game is going to replace Quake IV.... seeing as that has kinda died in Info-terms. How do you interpret this?

So Id isn't trying to take over the world as i originally thought from the whole "conspiracy theory" name.

I think you could very well be right, but i thought i saw someone mention Quake IV and the X-Box. It was likely just a rumour but you never know.

This whole idea about trinity being the third set certainly fits. What with it being trinity. Id seems to like the number 3. 3 Doom games 3 quake games and 3 sets of three with this trinity thing.

hmmmm, interesting...

/me goes off to search for more data...

Could be, the last thing I heard about Quake 4 was the X-box thing too

Well for those who care:

www.gmistudios.com for info on Trinity the game. Maybe or Maybe not the concept. And just to think I would never know this if I hadn't had nothing to read last night, and reached for an old issue of PCGamer, which happened to have that in it. :P

Yeah, Trinity was highly spoken of like the pinnacle of gaming technology... I thought it was just a working name for Quake 3 first. But now I think it actually is the Doom 3 engine core and technology that stood for Trinity. Its unlikely he develop multiple engines like that :)

Actually ID is just a front for the international gaming cabal,
they are trying to dominate the gaming industry so that
they can embed subliminal messeges in their games.

The messeges will turn gamers into zombies who will be
commanded to storm the oil fields.

Keep your tin-foil hats handy folks.

tin-foil...nar, what you want is lead my friend..a hat of lead...

like mine...

/me puts on his lead hat and snaps his neck...

ok maybe not...

anywho, on topic, i'm still looking for more info ;(

Here's a fun quote on Trinity:

"Won't be a software renderer"

And the best of it all:

"The target is going to be pentium II, 32mb ram, and 3dfx level or greater accelerator. Basically the current top of the line system."

W00T!!!!! TOP OF LINE ROXORZ!!!!!! I just have to go and find it on the city dump ;)

More

Note that it is easy for an enthusiast to have a rather self centered view of the market. 32 meg systems are NOT common in the general population right now. Basically, everyone wants the games to be designed for their own systems. :-) The system spec for trinity would probably sound excessive to you right now. Your current system almost certainly isn't up to par, but you will probably buy a new system be the time a game ships.

http://www.bluesnews.com/articles/carmackinterview.html

And another:

After Quake II was finished the whole world knew that John Carmack was working on a new game engine, known to the world as Trinity. We all knew that and not much else. Then in March, Carmack announced something else, Trinity would be put on the back burner in favor of a different game, another Quake sequel,
Leads me to further think "Trinity" is what have become Doom 3.

Nerve Software
Secret Project

Nerve is currently crafting concepts and ideas in collaboration with Id Software for a future project.

hmmmm.

ID won't say anything :(

Theres a stupid fake site.... saying it has Quake 4 screenies. It's not. It's a geocities site. That thinks its funny. It's not. (strangly enough Raven link to this :P )

Raven Software have a Quake 4 page:

(this is what it says about the story)

Quake IV will continue the story of Quake II, taking you back to the Strogg universe. The game is claimed to include "Matrix-style" effects as well. More info should be posted here in the coming months.

Right:

PCGamer 124
But the Nightstalker's prime advantage over his hapless Paramilitary foes is his uncanny ability to bend the laws of time.

That sounds like Matrix style effects to me :)

Here is an article that will inform you about it:
http://www.gamepro.com/computer/pc/games/previews/29795.shtml

There are just too many co-incidences IMO... it could be Q4 or Trinity could be unrelated... but still :P

WOW! I mean, I cant BELEIVE my eyes! That game on a awesome PII with 32mb and a high end Voodoo card?! I'm freaking out here!!!!!

At Quakecon 2002, during Carmack's yearly speech, he stated that Quake IV was infact being developed by Raven Software using the new technology behind Doom3. "Trinity" from what I gathered at Quakecon was the name behind the technology, similar to "Source" by Valve.

OK.. that makes sense. Hmmm. That makes no sense, what about Doom Quake and Trinity...... hmmmm
