Does any one know the back story behind him?

I mean, I know he was a priest, and that he has made free use of Ravenholm (he's wearing Converse shoes) but where did he REALLY come from?

IIRC, Grigori is a name given to a group of fallen angels, who are supposed to 'come again' when Revelations, something, something, I dunno.

As far as we know Grigori was Ravenholm's priest and pastor, and simply went mad and started shooting Headcrabs and zombies and shit when the Combine shelled his town. Who knows, he might have been that way before.

To me, Greg was one of the most intriguing characters in the game, his origins being left unexplained was a good thing. I'd like to think he was some kind of eccentric pastor in Ravenholm, something along the lines of what you might see if you turn on the Christian channels, just extremely passionate about his cause that it drove him sort of crazy. After the invasion he probably just channeled that energy into repelling the intruders and creating wild traps..

If anyone could find any sort of literary inspiration for the character that might help, nearly all the characters you encounter in HL2 seem to be inspired by at least one other work of art or literature. His origins could be fleshed out a bit more this way, I sincerely hope he makes a combat in a later chapter of the Half-Life saga.

Grigori was somekind of monk referring to model name but it was originally supposed to be priest. He was just monk in the town before Combine put all the Headcrabs there and then all his friends turned to zombies. He's just crazy now, but only survivor in Ravenholm. He also seems to know how to set up traps around.

Do we really know he's crazy? I mean yea there's a lot of info to say that he was but really. It could be he thought it was his mission to defend Ravenholm. Plus he seems to find you pretty easily like he was expecting you. Perhaps premonition. By the way yes i know this is way out there.

Mmm, I don't think Premonition, he just knows his town really well :P, If only the PLAYER knew his/our way around that damn maze of zombies!

If he was crazy i'd expect he splat Gordon as soon as he saw him.

Saying he's crazy for blatting the zombies and headcrabs is silly, because, well Gordon does exactly that aswell. He's just trying to defend his home town from the silly old zombies, as for all the religious verses he quotes, they're just some spiritual advice for Gordon :)

I don't think he's really insane, actually. What happens when your the last survivor of a hellish town of re-animated corpses? You turn to god. Sure, he laughs a lot, but I tend to think of it as the rush of battle. What would you do if you were running from building to building, shooting zombies, etc., almost every day? You'd laugh when you shot one from the top of a structure. Or he takes enjoyment in doing God's work, or something similar.

Mm, does this make sense to anyone else? >_>

Makes sense to me. He kinda reminds me of the Hitman 47, religous yet deadly.

If he was really batf*ck insane he'd have shot himself.

Or, I don't know, latched onto a clown motif.
