Hey, I just had a thought.
We should all know by now that magic doesn't keep halflife2.net going. It's servers, paid for and run by the great hl2.net god, Munro. Some people are tossing around an idea of setting up a donation box. Great idea, but I'm sure some people dislike the idea of throwing money out and not getting anything tangible back. So what about setting up game servers (once the game has been released, i mean)?? I imagine the very significant bandwisth the site consumes will only increase once the game is realesed, possibly by a vast amount...
I know very little about this type of thing (anyone who does please chime in), but what would be neccisary?? I used to play CS at a server hosted at www.PHXX.net, which hosts a couple dozen servers at any one time. I don't very often anymore due to mediocre pings, plus i was banned from my favorite server (favorite for maps and players, NOT the admin quality, BTW).
It seems like having something comparable would help this site be even more popular, as well as providing a way to pay for the hosting costs...
Anyway, just an idea.
