Help with a bug?

Hello i'm a noob in playing half life 2 , but i'm having a problem, no matter what i do i can't hear anything, i only can see subtitles if i put them.

I don't know if this is the sound tittering bug i've heard of, but please help.
I wanna play half life 2.
