HL2 Demo - having problems getting past early part

I just downloaded HL2 demo yesterday b/c I have been hearing good things about it, but will have to upgrade my current Video card before I can play it to its fullest potential. Before doing this, I want to give it a try.

I'm still early on and am getting frustrated. I am a complete newbie when it comes to games.

Freeman (I think that's the main character's name) has just gotten through the window after meeting a friend who was pretending to be one of the guys in the masks (sorry - don't know the official names). Freeman goes up the stairs and then, after picking up a piece of trash and putting it in the garbage, he is allowed into a train station. I'm not sure what to do next. If I wait in line, nothing happens. If I go out some doors, I get into an area where there are a couple hotels, but I can't enter them, and there are some required access sites that I can't seem to to get in.

Any suggestions on what I should be looking for next? Thanks a lot.

Go outside. Go to the right handside of the map. There should be ladders not far from the combine car (those people with stunsticks are called combine). Go up the ladders and fall across the other side.

go through the gate and go straight on, when you reach the end of the large ticket and waiting area, turn left into a corridoryou should reach double doors on the right hand side, go through.
