HL2 for Xbox

yeh X box 1 could not support the game graphically..

My computer ran it fine. And its a crap comp. I think the X-Box will be able to handle it. If not, then whatever. I don't think I'll buy it anyway, not 'cause I'm too leet to buy a game that was originally on another Consoloe, like some people, more because whenever I fire up Half-Life 2 to play through a level I usually get bored half way through and quit. No point in me really buying it again.

If Doom3 can, than why not Half-Life2?

Great point. But I think XBox 2 also is more likely. XBox 1 can handle it though.

Well they've spent almost a year getting it to run on XBox.... It would make such a more logical choice for VALVe to do it on the XBox 2 (maybe a launch title if its already in the works) as then it will live longer :)

Hmmm but I wonder about how they would handle the patching for it considering VALVe patches a lot.... I'm sure it would piss some people off to have to get weekly updates to the game because they have to download them all and such.... Maybe XBox is more secure than PC?

They might just not support it as much. Nothing can be done about that. they need to just make it good the first time and hope for the best.

by the release of xbox 2 i doubt hl2 will have very much interest for xbox [2] owners.

I believe it is coming for the xbox, but
Less units overall, alot less detail and texture sizes. When I mean alot, i mean ALOT.

hl2 would suck on the x-box here's my list on why:
1. you have to pay separate for internet (it should use the same net as your comp, greedy bastards)
2. with out net, no mods, no updates, and no other cool things
3. the controler sucks for fps, mouse beats it bad
4. downgrade on graphics
5. ect. (more stuff i just can't think of it right know)

Well, that's all true. But some of them have quick-fixes to them. For eg., lets take problem #1. If you could find a way to hook up your XBox to a modem, then you'd have XBox live for free

Or for problem #3, EGM featured an ad for a special mouse for consoles. No lie!

No mods problem you can't fix, & other reasons make the PC the best gaming system ever.

According to my understanding, you have to have yoru Xbox connected to a modem. Then you have to pay monthly for xbox live.
Thus you have to pay for your internet AND xbox live.

But it matters. The mouse probably wont work with games that don't feature code for it. Which is probably alot considering the people with the xbox mouse would probably be a minority.

I have a feeling Valve is hiding something about the console version, it will probably be on the next-gen and contain something revolutionary or different from what we'd be expecting.

If its going to be on Xbox 1 it can't be the same as the PC version because you need at least 1.2Ghz to run it. An Xbox only has 733Mhz.

If the Xbox can handle Halo, and a PC twice it's spec can hardly run it, than the Xbox can handle HL2. Maybe not at 60fps and at full graphical detail, but I'm sure it's at least possible. It all depends on how well Valve optimise the code for the hardware; it's a lot easier to improve performance on one specific set of hardware, rather than trying to optimise for hundreds of different setups for the PC.

That's complete noncense. The X-Box system is designed to run extremely effectiantly around that CPU. The CPU's clock speed doesn't really mean anything in relation to the machine's overall performance. It is, after all, designed as a games machine & it's architecture will obviously reflect that. I think HL2 will run fine & X-Box albeit with a drop in the kind of frame rate that most of us are used to.

Incidently, I've heard that the X-Box 2 will be powered by the Motorola G5 chip that powers the latest series of Mac's. Is this confirmed or just a rumour? Also, Sony are apparently claiming that the CPU in development for the Playstation 3 (If thats what it ends up being called) is 5 times more powerfull than the current system CPU! Cool

I agree. X-Box 1 is able to run Half-Life 2. How come then Doom 3, the game with the most best graphics, was able to run on X-Box.

Actually it's suppose to be 10.
According to there speeds we run at 20 something.. They run at 200-300 something..

On the top 500 super computer list, 1 cell chip is about 1/4 as fast as a super computer.
Now think about this..
Super Computers are huge and take up a lot of space.
Now think about the size of 1 cell chip.
Very Small. Centimeters.....

Doom 3 only looks good cuz of that shading.
I seen the pistol in a screenshot of Doom 3 looked great.
Seen an outdoor(Im guessing for a mod) of it, no shadows really on it.. wowa looked HORRIBLE.

Same goes for monsters.

When you take off the shadows..they don't look NEARLY as good.

I might buy an Xbox 2 when it comes out because it will probably have a better price-to-performance ratio than a new games PC. However what are the chances of a keyboard/mouse being released for it? A joypad isn't anywhere near as good for FPS games

Hopefully pretty high. As you say, FPS's with a joypad are bloody awfull!
