HL2 in Aug. to compete with Doom III?

It seems they heard from a guy who heard something and is extrapolating on what Gabe apparently said... Well it's more reliable than anything Lombardi says at least! :laugh:

I checked the forums quickly and couldn't find a thread about this article. My apologies if it's already been posted! :rolling:

This WAS sorta brought up in the "HL2 rleaseed by august" thread, but it gets too crammed anyway. The article is tangible news to me. Others were just speculating, which is what the forum is for.

Is it better for HL2 to come out after Doom III, or vice versa?
 
well i would like if HL2 came out before doom3... but Nvidia wants doom3 first and ati wants hl2 first... just to nock eachother off sales!
 
From a sales perspective for VALVe, I don't think it really matters which one comes out first, but certainly they lose some bragging rights. ATi will be much more upset about HL2 not being released alongside Doom III than VALVe will, methinks.
 
I'm pretty sure that there might have been negotiations between Valve and Id or Activision and VU regarding the release of these games and by some from of mutual agreement, there will be sufficient "space" between releases so that they don't trip on each other's toes.

This is not unheard of in the business world where competitors do attempt to stagger product releases in gain maximum exposure.
 
in my mind the only compitition is which to play first when I get 'em!
