HL2 in Japanese Arcades

November 01, 2004 - Taito's Type-X arcade board will be getting some big-name support shortly. The arcade manufacturer revealed today plans to bring Half-Life 2 to arcades on the new board. The game is set for distribution in Japan in the Summer of 2005.


But what caught our eye most is this:

In addition to a single player Story Mode, the game will include two Online multiplayer modes playable between players located at any arcade throughout Japan. Those itching for Online Half-Life 2 in the arcade will be able to try out competitive play in the game's Battle Mode and cooperative play in the game's Mission Mode.


So, while Valve has told us repeatedly that there is no online mode in Half-Life 2, it seems the arcade will have both co-op and battle mode. This is a most confusing development, and we'll keep you on top of any further updates.
