Who/What is Combine? where combine come from? I wonder How Earth surrenders by combine's Victory?

we know that breen had something to do with arranging the surrender of earth to the combine.

that bastard.

at the end of hl1 humans had control of xen but only for a short time because xen is the border world between universes and we got attacked by the combine and once we were over run they intergrated their technology into theirs becasue that is what they do .

my theory

There was a war between human and Combine forces that was called 'The 7 hour war' This war, ironically, lasted 7 hours :0 But anyway... the earth stood no chance against the Combines superiority and the combine enslaved the populace and banned mating :0.

You have to listen to Dr. Breen when he's talking on the monitors and such. Once you escape the torture room, you enter a large plaza with a giant screen. Breen is being broadcast upon it and in his spiel, he mentions that the Combine (the 'benefactors') have set up a suppression field which is inhibiting fertilization.

In the very start of the game. Listen to Breen's telescreen spiel. (Totally thought of 1984 when I wrote that last sentence)

The Combine are aliens (You see Breen talking to him during the teleport accident and at the end of the game)

The metrocops/CP's (white masked) are volunteer citizens.. mostly because they just want a hot meal.

The 'combine soldiers' (black greyish mask) appear to be humans with mechanical modifications, as seen on the Nova Prospekt video cameras.

The combine soldiers are under Breen's control. Breen had to barely even convince them that we could have our own human control force. In Nova Prospekt you hear him yelling at them, saying how hard it was for him to make the Combine believe they are the best Earth has to offer.

Rakurai is completley correct in what he said...the only thing "combine" on earht is combine technology...theres not a single actual combine alien on it.

Although Breen is a bastard, if he hadnt organized that surrender of earth we would have been completely wiped out....

true:)

you do see one of them though, the combine are effectively that worm thing that breen talks to. They are a race based on biomech, but on the same token, the only real combie you fight are the gunships and the striders. The humanoids are a mix, also the cops too.

According to the little prima hint book that I got with it the gunships and striders are slaves of the combine, biomech animals forcefully evolved to meet combine needs. So, not real combine.

It looks to me that the Combine simply wish to take and use all resources from the planets they encounter, including the organic life, and use it for their purpose. Who knows what the original race might have looked like, or looks like now, I bet their 'civilisation' is based upon several dozens of alien races, all combined with mechanical parts.

This story has quite a lot of potential, can't wait for the next sequel ;)

No, but I think that is what the combine consists of, they conquer planets, deplete its resources and enslave any useful creatures. And they thus become part of the Combine. Some sort of Borg who assimilate the good features of a planet and then use that to enhance themselves. (hey don't look at me like that, I ain't a trekkie, I just knew that! :rolling: ) So maybe there isn't a single race that makes up the combine, maybe that Advisor was also merely a creature that was enslaved at some point.

you never know... there may only be ONE combine. the race may consist of one universal being with enough power to enslave nations. i wouldnt be too suprised if this is the truth... even the big worm thing breen was talking to at the end had been enslaved. So i think that in HL3 you will travel to te origin of the combine, and it will resolve in a final battle that will determine the future of everything in either of the universes. That would certainly be a predictable path for valve to take, and not too hard for the story to resolve either, as once the combine is killed the creatures would have free will- or if they rely on a leader, gordon could even take over the role and effectively rule the universe. or the Gman could step in and say "il take over from here" ;)

Even Breen says it in some point, combine is more than one alien race. It's a "union" of many races.
They want humanity to join the Combine but not because of the planet resources, or they would just bomb everything and kill all the humans in like 20 hours (if we gave up after 7?).

The problem is that they give humans no choice, it's either join us or die, and not only join us but also change so you can be our slave and you can live in our environment.
