yeah of course why should i play a game bugged to the core , some levels are simply impossible to play due to an extreme sound stutter, exemple: chapter 8 sandtrap , i was close to throw my mouse on my 17"tft screen , i'm furious to see that even with those specs [email protected], 1024ddr400mhz,audigy 2sz plat pro, nvidia 6800gt @415/1150, 2x120 maxtor 7200rpm, the game is not running at perfection , i'm sure there's a bad handling with soundfiles and valve should fix that asap. i will not play that game anymore until a patch is released

erm well my PC certainly aint as good as yours and I have NO problems. Most likely your choice of drivers. :frown:

yes, I asure you it isn't a game problem...if it were efveryone would have trouble.

Yeah I think you might need to look at your setup, should run like melting butter on that system, does on mine and I only have a 5900XT. (settings to medium)

pff amazing i was thinking that a lot of poeple have encountered the same problem , i'm using dx9.0c with nvidia 67.02 wich drivers are you using ?

p4 1.6ghz, 512mb DDR ram, 128mb Geforce 4 ti4800 SE... Even on this mid-low end computer I have absolutely no sound stuttering and the game runs at 40fps most of the way through, with everything on medium settings. It looks better than any other game I've ever gotten to run on it, and I really high quality sound using just the motherboard's onboard sound, and a pair of US$50 headphones...

Not true at all, not everyone has the same hardware so some bugs in the game code would only happen to certain people.

ok i understand ...maybe the problem is coming from my audigy card i will test the game with another soundblaster pci-card.

No problemo here, and I'm on an oced xp 1700+ and an 9700 pro with 1 gig o ram.

bxstreetlife, there is no problem with your sound card or setup.
A lot of people (including myself) are having problems with sound stutter.

There are severals threads related with this problem.
There is even a web page with detalied information about it :
http://www.blep.net/hl2stutter/

Valve is working on the problem but there is no patch available yet.

A solution for the stuttering problem has been found and a fix is coming. I've been talking with Gary McTaggart about this today and it turns out that my texture management theory was correct. A patch will be coming for this issue that will load all of the required textures into video memory on level load, rather than doing it during game play. There is currently no ETA for this patch, but I will post an update as soon as I get more information

I have a 2.2ghz xp-m, 512mb ddr450, sb live 5.1 and 6800GT and I also had the same problems as you. It really was pretty much unplayable. I tried every single driver combination I could think of, but without results. However, what "fixed" it for me, was a few additions to config.cfg in the hl2/cfg folder:

snd_mixahead "0.5"
sv_forcepreload "1"
snd_async_fullyasync 1

Someone posted these lines here so I put those in my config.cfg and now it doesn't stutter pretty much at all any more. The problem is, though, that now the sound isn't in sync with the game any more, which is a bit of a let down. But hey, at least I can play the game...

Yeah, I have no interest in helping someone who makes threads with titles like this.

So don't play until a patch is released or express your problem and ask for help and maybe we can work it out.
