Is this game going to be 64 bit?

I have been wanting to build a new computer, mainly for this game and I was wondering if anyone knew if this was going to be a 64 bit game or a 32 bit? I would like to get a adaquate processor to make the game run faster.

It will be 32 but i think in the future Valve are releasing a 64-bit patch for users with 64bits systems... i think this will all be released once Windows 64bit is out of beta and reaches retail status.

Although i would recommend getting a AMD64bit as they are faster (well, least the top of the line ones) than the 3.2ghz p4 IIRC... also they are better for gaming, and compatible with future, 64bit versions of hl2, farcry, and possible Doom3... plus other games not released yet

It's 32-bit and may receieve 64-bit extensions through patches later on, though Valve said that and what Valve say changes on a daily basis.

It may not be true.

They said ages ago they want to support 64 bit systems, im sure it will be compatable at least.

it's not like you a have choice.
If you get Athlon 64 you would have to use beta version of Windows 64 and good luck finding 64 bit drivers for your hardware. Also, most of the tests I've seen so far show virtually no performance difference between 32 and 64 bit..

My next CPU is 32 bit P4 :D

64 bit has nothing to do with performance. If you buy more than 4 GB of RAM, then you need a 64 bit cpu and os to handle it.

A PURE 64 bit system is way way way better then any 32 bit. They aren't pure yet.

I'm not really sure, but a pure 64 bit system won't be compatible with *any* programs that runs on 32 bit, including OS and drivers.

Hmm, why whould I have to use a beta of windows 64, when I could just (as I do atm) use the trusty old 32bit windowsXP on my amd64, and still thrash a p4 in about every game benchmark, while runiing colder, and consuming less power ?

And then just smile happily and convert once mature os and drivers are ready for 64bit ?

And for performance, take a look at some of the linux based 32bit vs 64bit benches, lots of performance to be had (no im not suggesting you should run Linux, just pointing out that linux, with has had 64bit support for a longer time, shows that the performance gain of 64bit is very real, once code matures)

Sry, but your post was sort of misleading, intentionally or not....

That has nothing to do with 32 or 64 or whatever bit.
The 32 bit x86 architecture is just to old. You can do a much better and faster 32 bit system, but it would not run any x86 Software.

You need 64 bit just for incredible high precision calculations or to handle more than 4 GB of RAM. It would maybe even slow down software that doesn't need 64 bit precision such as games or office software.

The reason manufactures are pushing 64 bit cpus is marketing and maybe the 4 GB limit.
