my question is i like the 360 and im sure itll do very good, but when is oblivion gonna get good? its rated 9.6 and everything but i cant understand that. im at the part where uve saved kvatch and ur on the horses taking that guy goffre or w/e to a safe spot. is this game gonna get better? and also i dont understand why they make the graphics so good if the system cant handle it. everytime i turn around it always chops a bit and u can tell everythings a little laggy especially outdoors. is it like that with every game or jus this one.

Maybe it's just not for you, it doesn't get better or worse.

The main quest isn't very fun - at least not until you get addicted to the game.

Your best bet is to wander around and go inside caves and battle there. It should probably run like a dream there. Kavatch is the most demanding area in the game. When I played there in Kavatch, there were like 10 monsters on screen attacking me sometimes.

When I saw someone playing the game on 360 it ran beyond perfect. But the game is definitely the most demanding game ever released at this point, AFAIK.

And what Minerel said is pretty much true. The game engine is not efficient. Many of the actors are being processed at all times. In Doom, monsters that you can't see, most of the time aren't even processed. (you just set the creature "hide" when making the map. This turns off gravity and animations for this creature, and don't process any thinking for the AI of this monster, and the monster is motionless until you come within range.

But in order for Oblivion to have this radiant AI, the actors are well aware of your presence and fully processed - even through walls.

It's a demanding way of doing it, and I don't like it, but what can I say.

I REALLy love this game. I did not like it at first. It wasn't until I gave the game another chance 2 weeks later that I realized it was one of the best games ever made, and played it for dozens of hours. You should realize how awesome it is eventually. :D

I look forward to playing it some more when I get a better computer.

I never really liked this game so you might find that it never gets good for you. It is all a matter of opinion.

I think if you are ever going to like the game you will probably like it off the start. It's just one of the few games that offer the first person rpg type gameplay. If you like that style, and you also like epic stories then this is probably the game for you, but apparently if your not liking it now I don't know if you ever will; so far as where i'm at in the game it doesn't change much, just do sidequest stuff like caves and ruins, if that doesn't spice it up a little i don't know what will. Good luck in your quest to make Oblivion better.:)

Basically it boils down to this:

If you like Western-style RPG games, you'll like Oblivion.

If not, you won't.

He's right. The Battle for Kvatch is pretty much the highlight of the game

Not true at all. I love all Bioware games, Deus Ex, Bloodlines, and some others ... but Oblivion is just a grossly overrated game. It's not even a real RPG, seeing as the actual RPG elements don't affect your standing in the world. It could have been a great game except for the terrible scaling system they threw in. Seeing as you can run all the way through the game on Level 1, and the only thing leveling does is make the game harder, the RPG elements are really only for shits and giggles. This would be fine if it had great action, but it doesn't.

But you still have to appreciate the scope of what Bethesda accomplished with Oblivion. The game is an order of magnitude larger than anything you mentioned, even older Bioware games like Baldur's Gate 2 are considerably smaller than Oblivion. It is absolutely massive. Say what you want about the scaling, but the game actually does get easier as you start approaching level 20+ as your equiptment begins to outstrip that of your enemies. Maybe you just need to spend a little more time with it - I don't know. What I do know, is that it is truly a remarkable achievement and a damn fun game.

Well, for me the game got easier as I leveled up. The problem with games that let you level up - is the game supposed to get EASIER or HARDER as you level up? This could be argued either way, and no one seems to know what they want. They want to kick more ass as you level up. Well you can do this by leveling up in this game. More fighting moves, shield moves, dodging moves, powerful magic spells, etc. Every other game you play gets harder as you get further in the game. Why anyone would want the game to get easier is beyond me, but for me - when I played, it did. At my level, my stats and gear are so good, I'm like god. But, the cool thing about this game is that you can change the difficulty at any time. So I can't complain that the game is too hard or too easy, because I can change it.

You would think, as you get better at the game, you want to be challenged and tested. Like in every game out there, as you "get to the next level' you can expect it to be tougher and monsters to start kicking your ass. By the time you get near the end of the game it should be hard.. the first levels are like a warm-up.

So if some want to 'cheat' the game by staying level 1 - you are missing the entire game. No wonder you don't like it. If you stay level 1 so the game will be easier.. does that make any sense considering that the game has a difficulty slider? Not to me. Why not level up and find powerful magic items and armor, and build your attributes the way you want? You see, the advantage of leveling up is that you find better gear as you level up, you get a larger magic pool, you can learn more powerful spells and you can learn more fighting moves, to name a few things.

Scott thinks the action just isn't there, but I think it's got the best action of any RPG ever, and better than most Action games. Nearly every other RPG puts me to sleep, and RPG's are my favorite type of game. It's a shame none of them can even come close to the combat in this game.. they all still use primitive lock-on targets or turn-based menu fighting systems. Snooze-fest!

Speaking of RPG, the leveling system in Oblivion is the best of any game. You can put points on the things you want. You don't just create a cookie cutter character like in Wow, where your character can only do what Blizzard says your character can do. For example only a warrior can do this, and only a Mage can do that. In oblivion, you can create any type of character you want, and by using the skills you like, you get better at them, and you can eventually master them, no matter what. If you like wearing heavy armor, then do it. If you like wearing heavy armor and casting only magic, then go for it. You can make your own classes.

This is the only game I would give a 10/10 score to in the past 15 years or so. This game is so amazing, who can complain about flaws in AI? Every game has flaws in AI. Without spending too much time trying to remember what games I even liked in the past decade, Goldeneye for the N64 and Resident Evil were probably the most recent games I would have scored a 10, for the record.

It really is a dream come true type game for me - a game that I always wanted but no developers seemed to ever make games like this. I can't name one thing besides the AI that I would change with this game. The only thing I can hope for is good patches, and hopefully more of the World to explore down the line in some expansion. It would have been nice if they would have used more - and more complex puzzles and traps, like RE and Silent Hill, but at least there is a fair amount of them.

Again, I say that Kavatch and the Oblivion gates are the worst part of the game, but they are still really good, once you get sucked into the game.

Now you have my opinion. Probably the best game ever made. Two thumbs up. :)
