This has happened more often after the release of the Audio Suttering patch fix on the 24th of November. Whenever I play Half-Life 2 or CS:S, my game will suddenly hang at random points of the game and make a sound. I have already downloaded the latest drivers for my sound card and already gotten the Catalyst BETA 4.12 (Also tried 4.11). I can not get out of the game and I need to reboot once my game hangs. Yes i know you people are going to tell me to use the mat_forcemanagedtexturesintohardware command but that does not work either. My computer specs are as follows:

Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 1)
Samsung SyncMaster 151s Monitor
AMD Athlon XP2600+ Barton @ 2.34 GHz
Creative 3D Blaster 5 ATI Radeon 9600XT 256MB AGP 8X (Standard clocks)
Twin-Sticks of Kingston 256MB DDR 333 PC2700
Western Digital 80GB 7200 RPM 1MB HDD
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer
Logitech MX 310 Optical Mouse
Abit NF7 nForce 2 Ultra400 Mainboard
HEC 6AU6 Mid Tower Casing

Considering that you OCed your CPU, have you tried it at stock speeds? Just an idea. You can always go back to OCed settings. ;)

I don't have any experience with a buggy HL2 so I really don't have any other advice. Maybe delete your cash files and let HL2 download again.

I have the same problem since the new patch. Crashes aren't that common, though, but they do lock the PC up totally and actually make Windows load at 1/4 speed until I do a System Restore.

Patch removal option please, Valve? :hmph:

I have a similar setup. I simply changed the quality settings from high to medium, and the stuttering simply dissapeared. The change in quality doesn't really bother me, though you might find it too noticeable.

yeh i have the EXACT problem in CSS. i jus hand in the air for about 10 seconds which a sound repeating and the screen shaking and then i jus go back to normal. it happends at random times

My game went from very playable before the patch to, at times, utterly UNplayable, after the patch. Anti-citizen 1, especially the town square firefights, are complete jokes. I hear of at least one level still coming up that will be bad also. If it gets this bad again, I'm uninstalling - I'll reinstall Undying or something I know will run...

It's better indoors, with fewer actors onscreen - but still, I'd be a happier bear if I could UN-patch this thing. Specs below.

XP 2400+ (stock)
2x256mb Crucial 2700
Win XP Pro SP2
GigaByte Radeon 9600XT
Turtle Beach sound

I guess we're in the minority though - I don't get the sense there are any more patches/fixes coming to address these issues, are there?
