making gun turrets

I know how to make basic turrets but I need to know how to make better turrets that look up and down and any other ways to make a better turret

i don't think this tute explains how to make the spotlights and sprites turn on and off in a night map, but it's a fairly straightforward matter of using a logic_auto to output a SetParentAttachment that attaches the point_spotlight and env_sprite to the right parts of the gun model, then use the func_tank's OnGotController outputs to turn the lights on and off. tru decompiling the night beach map in HL2 and looking at one of those guns
