Yeah, I showed these back in September. Not very big.

Dude.... just some clipping bugs, hardly worth starting a thread for..

The cable in the second pic is going into the clouds i think....so not really a mistake.

Niether are mistakes. The first screen has clipping because calulating where a ragdoll model is to prevent anything going through it takes up too much system resources, and the second because of the 'blind spot' created by the sun flare.

This is true, but the other mistake in that picture is the fact that the HK Mp7 (or Mp5, as that was the placeholder then) doesn't have a shadow... I would expect it's probably fixed though.

Actually, Gabe Newell's indicated that the clipping problem's been fixed ("Interpenetration is a bad thing"...). If it does turn out to be a system hog, and since it's probably just an "Icing On The Cake" sort of thing, maybe they'll have an option in the menu to toggle it...?

He pointed that out. :p

But but but but but the arrow is pointing to the shadow. (or lack of) :D
EDIT: Oh, we are talking about Varsity. I thought we were talking about XJR. :stare:

Yeah, but I was talking to Varsity.

wow like i care, the screens are almost a year and a half old, and anyway, why don't you try to make a 3d engine as good as source

No need to come down hard on the guy. Damn! My avatar doesn't work. I can't make .gifs in Paint! ;(

Geesh. Do you remember that guy on City-17 who scanned all binkvids and then put together all flaws he detected in an article? Like "Here's why HL2 will get 99% in the reviews instead of 100%"

I think I will cry myself to sleep tonight now I know there's no weapon shadow in the screenshot... ;(

Yeah, those were the days. I think that was before I joined though, but I still saw it. It made me laugh. :) :dork: :sniper:

For real.
You can go fire up Half Life and find flaws in the game. That didn't stop it from earning over 50 Game of the Year awards.

AAAAAA! Clipping =/= interpenetration! Z-buffering is working fine. I wrote a rant about this 6 months ago when these pictures were combed over, but I'm too tired. My reaction to the thread: um.. duh.

Far Cry does that just fine. I just don't think Havok comes with the coding for Ragdoll's to affect eachother physically. Though I'm sure it's probably a simple value change of 0 to 1.

i haven't touched far cry, does it have rag doll implemented very well?

Not in the demo. It's like they're half way to rigor mortis.

They do in FarCry, it's just that people don't flail in the air when you shoot them in the foot. I was ambivalent about it. I like seeing ragdolls ragdoll, but for some reason shooting someone and just seeing them fall with a very heavy-looking flop/clump is satisfactory as well.

Ah isn't it nice to be back to the same old semi-chaos and confuzzlement?

Yeah I know what you mean - sometimes ragdoll effects can be ridiculously sensetive. I seem to remember it being possible (ammo and bullet-time willing) to practically juggle corpses in the air with bullets. Sometimes it just seems a bit over-the-top. I always though that in the barricade vid, when the dude falls from the watch-tower that he flails far too much. But then what does it matter? Tiny point.

I'm surprised he didn't bring up the wrong direction shadows in the other old shot...

Far Cry's physics are many times better than Max Payne 2, where, as stated earlier, you could literally juggle bodies in the air. Far Cry's physics are actually quite realistic, and have no problems making ragdolls interact with each other.

i don't think it's particularly fair to claim there are mistakes in HL2 on the basis of screenshots released of a halfmade game that hadn' been play tested or even had textures in some of the shots. They shall fix it...chill

Who cares ,, well maybe u but as long as the game is fun to play .

:flame:

However...when this PC Gamer magazine comes out feel free to rip to shreds the pictures (if there are new ones) for mistakes because things are getting close
