I am wondering if there is anyway you can play offline. I am moving in 2 weeks and the cable company wont hook up until a week after I have moved. A week without HL2 is just too unbearable to conteplate.

Before anyone thinks I am trying to play a hacked version let me assure you it is a legal copy, only legal means to play offline need to be posted.

At least I will stay be able to keep up with the boards at work, for some reason my company wont let me install the game on my work pc, when will they see the light?

Thx in advance.

I have just tried Steam in offline mode and it worked fine. If steam does not detect an internet connection it will ask if you want to retry or run in offline mode.

As long as Steam has connected to the internet at least once and your authenticated you should be able to run in offline mode.

And make sure when you are getting disconnected that you shut Steam down while you are online. It doesn't work if you just keep it open and unplug your net connexion. Offline mode won't work either. I made that mistake once.

Excellent, thanks for the great news. I was sweatin it for a bit.

Nope, I use a cable connection and havent disabled it and tried to play. I didnt want to take a chance of it thinking I was trying to bypass it. And since I d/l'ed my version from STEAM I was unsure exactly of the rules so to speak, I could have read the manual but once I got the game all I have done is play it. Sorry if this was a post of laziness but that folder is a little goofy.

How do you run it in offline mode? I exit Steam and click on HL2 shortcut but it still connects to Steam. I have cable.

If Steam does not detect an internet connection it *should* allow you to select offline mode.

RogueFox have you tried running Steam in Offline mode?
RogueFox, definitely experiment now, while you still have a net connection.
