What's is the deal with this "pay to play" I really don't understand it myself. Personally I playSingleplayer for the most part. I usually don't have time to play multiplayer games because of my newborn son and other family obligations.
Although I'm interested in playing CS and DOD even TF2, with the development of BOTS by third party people I can get the experience of these specific games. I know it's not anywhere near close to actually playing against people but it sure is nice to be able to try out if not actually play these mods.
Now what I dont understand about the pay for play deal and steam is- what does it offer? Do you pay the $50 for HL2 right of the bat or when you get the steam subscription do you just pay the $9.95 and that's that?
The $9.95 does sound like the better bargain if that is the case. That way I can download HL2 and within in 5 months TF2 may or may not come out. And what about what steam has to offer? I hear that the code changes frequently to counter the hacking and things like that. For that alone that might be worth it.
I only think that Valve may be jumping on the bandwagon for what Everquest and Star Wars galaxies offers. the $15 or so dollars a month really pays off for them I'm sure. YOu figure thousands of people playing online--- That's big money. As companies like Blizzard with World of warcraft and it's payt to play it seems that gaming is really heading toward that route. Not only do you have to buy the game and get a supbscription per month as well as an internet connection it seems costly. For a gamer that doesn't play that often, I shudder to think how one can experience these fine games on a part time basis.
Thanks in advance.
