Possibility of blackmail?

I am normaly the one to think of the worse things that could happen, so here is one of those things.

Is it possible that Valve is currently being blackmailed by the hacker? I can't really see what he would gain.. but there is always the chance

I wasn't able to say all I wanted in my first post, so here the rest is.

Is it at all possible the Hacker is blackmailing Valve with data that no one other then Valve knows was stolen? I know this seems stupid, but isn't it possible?

Maybe this Hacker works with the people working on Stalker, PainKiller, or Doom 3, and merly delaying HL2 to get a game back into the media..
