problems running half-life 2!!! help me please!!

hey i just bought, installed and updated half-life 2 to 100% but it wont run. when i start up the game i get that man with the dart in his eye or whatever it is and then in the background there is this blurred place and it says loading in the bottom right corner. then i get to error sounds and the game crashes! It will not let me do ctrlaltdel so i have to turn off comp from mains! ;(

what is wrong? how can i fix it??

512 mbram
intel extreme graphics 64mb ( i kno this works so dont bother telling me it is the card)

i havent finished updating them yet, bloody dialup

i just had the same problem, however i downloaded the updates (on broadband, 9 hours my patience is immortal) and it hung for me aswell no nothing, however i restarted and i have a nice little message from steam, telling me its decrypting files, surely it should have done that before it asked me to play the game? ive heard of protecting your product, but these measures are a bit top heavy

You have an integrated video chip designed to make movies run smoother. Yours doesn't even have it's own RAM, the 64 means it will use 64mb of your systems RAM.

Try validating your Half Life 2 cache files, it will check for corrupt files and replace if needed.

type this in IE: steam://validate/220

Here is the solution for the load failure with no error. There is in fact an error and it has to do with memory. You may or may not be receiving the following error message.

The instruction at "0x2406dd69" referenced memory at "0x01befacc". The memory could not be "read."

Here is the fix:

First location:

Right click your Half Life 2 icon on your desktop (the one you would normally double-click to launch the game). Then click Properties. Click the Shortcut Tab. In the line labeled Target, you will see something like this, depending on where you put the program when you installed it:

"C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 22

Copy and paste the following AFTER the above line:

+mat_forcehardwaresync 0 +snd_async_prefetch_priority 1

Be sure there is a space between -applaunch 22 and +mat

Click save and you are ready to go.

Second location:

From the Steam Play Games Menu, right click on Half Life 2. Choose Properties, then click Launch Options. Paste the following in the box.

+mat_forcehardwaresync 0 +snd_async_prefetch_priority 1

Click Ok and you are ready to go.

Do the same fix for Half Life 2 Deathmatch and Counter Strike Source.

Offline and Online Mulitplayer modes will should all work now.

hey, does n e 1 here no if cs:s comes with half life 2, when u buy half life as a disk, say from hmv, or do u have 2 buy it directley from steam 2 get cs:s
