Here's a few things to think about:

  • Did we, or did we not, leave the citadel at the end of Episode One at ground level? How come all of a sudden we're on a hill?
  • Why is the bridge in a completely different direction to the citadel? I seem to remember we were coming away from the citadel, not in the direction the bridge is.

It does not make sense.

You were knocked out by a car in Episode 1. You didn't see the actual train crash.

Yeah the starting of Ep2 did seem like a break in continuity from the end of Ep1. But after the ending of Ep1 we pretty much could have ended up anywhere.

Yeh, I relised this too, but then I remember that we got hit in the face by a car and were knocked out, the train could have been quite suitable and different from what we imagine, you never know, the train crash could have just been really slow or something.

EDIT: Also, after playing this level with noclip, i relised the track is now double instead of just one...

A freeking Citadel blew the hell up. Who knows what happends when a freeking Citadel blows up? Maybe it blasted us off the tracks we were on, through a space time continuum, and landed us a mile away...

My point is, Valve can do what they want with this. It's not like there is a precedence they have to follow...

Just like how Alyx was facing the wrong direction at the very beginning of ep1.

Or like Alyx somehow surviving a big explosion thing like that, without any scratches. Yet becoming stabbed by a Hunter, she is at death's door for a brief time.

Who says the explosion would do harm...

Kleiner can't speculate on how big or powerful the blast was, maybe the 'portal energy' which shot out from the citadel teleported all combine and humans left within the radius to the combine homeworld or xen, we don't know...

I think that is the most logical answer as a portal was open at the top of the citadel, and energy was pouring out = portal energy :D

All of Hl is to do with portals...weird...

Hl1, Lambda Complex studied and created portals
Hl2, Eli, Kleiner and Magnusson have all created working teleporters to travel between the same world.
Portal, yeh...
TF2 (I know but hey) Engineers build teleporters...

TF2 has a better affinity with HL2 games than people think.

I`m still waiting for a mod that uses TF2's classes in HL2 games.

"Spy sapping mah sentry!" *whacks hunter with wrench

*taunts

:D

Ooh. A TF2 team versus waves of zombies and antlions and things? Could be fun...

I caught myself hitting G a few times after killing people in HL2dm the other day. Some mechanics really get into your head. :D

Using Heavy's responses when Alyx is around ...

Yeah, that'd be a sweet project.

You got hit in the face with a car and embedded in the train car frame. It hurt, so you passed out. Meanwhile, the train car went up a hill and after a curve went on a bridge, which partially collapsed under the weight of the train.

Alyx miraculously (or just because she is as agile as a chimpanzee on amphetamine) escaped pretty much unscathed but was unable to get you out.

Then, Ep.2 begins proper.

Indeed.

Train tracks do have bends and ups and downs... Plus the energy blastwave would've knocked you out before the crash took place. Or something. Screw logic.
