Note that I have a monitor, hard drive, and graphics card already from other sources. Just trying to make a pretty basic internet/office type computer. Also I noticed on the OS page that they want you to buy hardware with the OS. At first I thought this meant you needed a hard drive, but then I noticed that they say the same thing on the keyboard/mouse page. Can anybody elaborate? Cheers!

Hey thanks for the tip I think I'll go with that. Who'd of thought you could get a subwoofer for $8.25.

newegg has the amd xp 2600+ for 90$ , I highly recommend just paying 47 more $ . Especially since you are getting her a dvd burner. When burning , a faster processor is quite helpful. Also for just 47 shed be getting a huge increase in speed. good luck

Actually i believe thats the same dvd burner i got form newegg.com 3 weeks ago. Works great , burned almost 30 rentals so far and its quiet and fast. But!! like i said if shes gonna be burning movies please dont leave her with that processor.

I pity all you fools who are paying 80-90 usd for xp HOME when my neighbor (who is working on the longhorn development team) is getting me xp PRO for 20 usd! :smoking:

Sorry that had to come out.

Looks good, but the processor seems a bit too blegh. I know it's just for office/sister stuff, but i'd say maybe even a 22 would be better. Maybe even a sempron? Don't know how those are.

That is a slower CPU but it also does not come with a heatsink/fan!
Recommended

Also, your board does not support PC3200 so why not spend a little more on a Brand name memory that will last and a little less on speed. Mushkin

gave me xp for the fam's pcs ( 4 ) and for my pc ( 1 ). for a grand total of 5 , 20$ less than what your paying. O and he had to use some type of hacked login but they all work superbly + svpack2. :smoking:

on another note just wish my 9800 pro didnt die on me this morning... cant see shit on my pc ( on one of the fam's right now ) Voided the warranty by adding a cooler so im screwed until after finals tomorrow- gotta get another one. - christmas $$ i really dont have too ;(

Was it from an official microsoft dude, or just some guy who hacked it?

Oh and my 9800 pro's alive and kicking. It is getting lower on benchmarks than I would expect it to, but today I just noticed I have a 160 watt psu (god damn HP's! cant wait till I have enough money for my first build) so that might be the reason.

I do hate to get such an old processor but I'm spending more than I want to as it is. At any rate the order is already in so I'm stuck with it.

i am also concerened about the OS being the most expensive part in your system :S

yes and no

The xp was official but he had a login that could be used many times for some type of system service. It doesnt really matter if its hacked or not though anyways because it runs great , updates , and i got service pack 2 with no problems.

got my 9800pro the other day and i will NOT! void my warranty again. I plan on getting the x800 but ill just wait till the summer i guess.
