In my little brain i have ponderd this for some time today as i have had nothing better to do. So here goes a bit of speculation to through your way.

Counter-Strike: Source was to be valves test baby. Used to find bugs in the source engine. Source runs not only CSS but also Hl2 and Bloodlines. CSS was cracked before it even went to CZ owners. CSS version 3 had put a halt atleast up untill a few days ago on the efforts of crackers to crack CSS. Each time valve has done a update they have done differnt things to try to keep people from playing CSS, ESPECILAY ON THEIR OWN STUFF- OFF.

In other words since that doesnt really put it out very well. Valve is trying to release halflife2 when they are sure that they have a little bit of time before they see it on the NEWB sites for download. Would you release a game that you spent 6 years on makeing just to know that when you releae it that you will see it on the internet before its in a store? This leads me to belive that is one of the other reasons that we are still playing CSS. It isnt that HL2 isnt done, it isnt that valve wants us to reallly keep testing CSS. Valve is wanting hackers/crackers/ what ever they choose to call themselvs to take a stab at cracking the newer builds of CSS. If valve finds that Release XXXX of CSS hasent been cracked then maybe thats when they will decided to gold it.

Yes valve will make money ither way if they release it and it gets cracked or not. BUT! their are tons and tons of people playing CSS right now without a ATI or CSZ authentication. These same people playing CSS would more than likely do the same for halflife 2 becuase they would see them at the same place they got CSS.

So in closeing, yes valve might still be touching up on Half-Life 2 but thats only for the guys that arent doing the major programing. Valve was too shure of them selvs when they said that CSS was going to be a pain to crack. V4"newest" was cracked no less than 10 minutes after it was released. With those figures you can see valve does have a good reason to not give information out.

If you didnt understand something point it out and ill clarafy.

If CSS = notcrackable then Half-Life 2 released to the masses.

Eh doubt it. Everything can be cracked. Half-Life 2 will be cracked. It's nearly impossible for it to be uncrackable. If they kept delaying it for that reason it'll turn into DNF.

I think u hit the nail on the head.Keep on eye out your window for men in black. They might try and shut you up.Seriously Mayron u make a very valid point.Got any others like this.I personally feel that HL2 has been done since E3 2004 but it doesnt matter what I think. All that matters is that HL2 does exitst and it will eventually come out and I will play it for a long time.Hopefully,it will not suck like Doom3.However Doom3 fans,Doom3 has some cool stuff, just to repeataive.Forgive spelling.

Very plausible theory.

Valve should just realise they can never make it uncrackable and release it along with HL2.

everything will be cracked because of psycho nerds with no life but cracking...

give me an uncrackable game, and i will coat your woohaw with 24k gold.

Well star force 3 lasted for a whyll... Then again... was their a game with starforce worth playing? lol

Quote from a group:
*Star force 3 is going down like a two doller hooker*

I guess you guys are right, Valve bring on the game whyll you still have people wanting the box to put on their wall... :x

If Valve wants to make HL2 uncrackable to make more money, the game won't ever be released, and that's not a very wise economical thing to do :) Release it while we are interested. If it gets another huge delay, half the community will stop caring, and money will be lost.

The most Valve can do is try to make the game so difficult to play if its a cracked version that the average idiotic warez kiddy won't bother trying.
